Scandinavian airline organises first gay wedding

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

SAS Scandinavian Airlines is planning to host the world’s first gay wedding in the air.

The wedding ceremony is set to take place onboard an Airbus A340 between Stockholm and New York on December 6th.

Chief Commercial Officer of SAS, Robin Kamark, said in a press statement that it is simply a natural celebration of love.

“Airlines, including SAS, have organized weddings onboard flights for decades, but we would be the first in the world to organize a same-sex wedding in the air. SAS is the national airline of three of the world’s most liberal and progressive countries in the world, especially when it comes to LGBT rights, so we feel this is a natural celebration of love,” says Robin Kamark, Chief Commercial Officer, SAS.

The lucky gay couple will say their vows in the business class section of the plane. Not only are they on cloud nine, they will also receive three nights’ accommodation in New York, flights over to Los Angeles as well as three nights’ luxury accommodation at the Andaz Hotel, West Hollywood, with a glamorous West Hollywood honeymoon experience.

Couples can enter the competition by creating a profile and uploading photos/video showing a presentation of their love story on flysas.com. Visitors to the site will vote for their favourite couple to win. Couples are allowed to promote their video/photos by sharing the profile via social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook.

Top Tips for choosing the perfect wedding day

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Getting married is one of the most important days of your life and you want to make sure that it is perfect. The planning and preparation for the big day can be a stressful task especially when it comes to choosing the perfect venue to accommodate for your wedding day and all your guests.

Sometimes you need to be flexible with the dates and try to reserve locations a long time in advance which may not always be the viable option.

And the wedding season – May-September – can become a real bridal way when it comes to grabbing your special date.

To give you a helping hand here are a few wedding ideas to help you plan that perfect day.

  1. The size of your wedding will often dictate how long the day will take to plan, and how soon you can get married. If you dream of the whole big white wedding with hundreds of guests and a luxurious feast, then you need to choose a date which will allow you the time to make the preparations. However, if you just want a simple wedding with just close friends and family then it will take less time to organise and your ceremony can take place a lot sooner.
  2. Most often, couples go for the romantic route and choose a special day to say their vows, maybe the anniversary of their first date, their first kiss, their parents anniversary, Valentines Day, a birthday etc. Consider whether or not there is a special day for you and your partner.
  3. Think about how much free time you have and adapt to the climate. If you like the warm weather then it is best ot reserve a date for the high season. It will possibly be more expensive, but there is a much better chance of the sun shining on your special day making it all the more enjoyable. However, if the rain doesn’t bother you the it is far cheaper to marry in the months of October and April.
  4. Consider the climate when it comes to your honeymoon too. Make sure that the honeymoon destination ties in the with wedding date so you can enjoy the perfect holiday after the perfect day.
  5. If you still do not know which month to choose, here are a few things to inspire you;

Spring is the best time for brides who dream of their day being filled with flowers.

Summer months bring longer days and warmer weather making it possible to have part of your wedding outdoors.

Autumn offers the chance for bold colour, often inspiring an overall palette of red, bronze and gold.

Winter can dictate a magical wonderland or a Christmas theme.

Britain’s first bingo wedding called off by Vicar

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

The happy couple

A couple’s big day has been called off by the vicar because it has been linked to a bingo website which he believes encourages gambling.

Bride to be Suzanne Latta, 28, and her groom, Matt Brown, 37, won £5000 towards the cost of their Big Day after entering a national competition run by Online BingoClub.

However Rev Tony Watts banned the company’s orange and blue logo from his church saying that it encouraged gambling which he disapproved of.

The bingo website had offered cash to any couple willing to feature their logo on the brides wedding dress.

They also wanted a small logo on the groom’s suit as well as on the underside of the couple’s shoes so that it would be visible to the congregation when they knelt at the altar.

The whole scenario is similar to the wedding of Anthea Turner and Grant Bovey who were famously pictured ‘promoting’ Cadbury’s Snowflake chocolate bar at their nuptials.

The bingo comparison site is said to be the first advertiser in the UK to try and officially sponsor a wedding.

The contest sparked a fury within The Church of England say that couples should think carefully before having their wedding sponsored.

“It seems like the latest in a long line of themed weddings,” said a spokesman. “”Presumably at the end someone shouts ‘House!”

“But it might not be the best way to start out in what should be a permanent relationship.

“It would be worrying if people decided to marry according to how much sponsorship was on offer.”

Matt and Suzanne, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffs, were selected from more than a hundred entries.

The couple planned to head to Scotland to marry in Glenmuick Church in Ballater, were Suzanne’s family have relations.

However their excitement turned into sorrow after Rev Watts insisted no logos would be permitted inside the church.

Suzanne said, “We were both absolutely delighted to have been chosen as the winners of the Bingo Bride competition.

“But our minister is not allowing any photos in the church during the ceremony, it is a sacred place and he wants no distractions, on speaking to him he didn’t approve of gambling being advertised in his church.”

Over 100 couples applied after reading £5000 would be be paid to one couple who were willing to sport the website’s blue and orange logos on their wedding dress, suits, shoes, invitations, menus and place settings.

The Reverend was away on on holiday and was unavailable for comment.

But Rob Hutchison from OnlineBingoClub.co.uk, said, “We are very disappointed that the vicar won’t allow our logos inside his church.

“We wanted to sponsor a wedding because we thought it would be great fun and a popular way to get our name out there.

“At the end of the day it is all just a bit of harmless fun and five grand would have helped Matt and Suzanne pay for their special day.”
