Something old, something new, something borrowed something bust?

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Confetti.co.uk – Manchester based company – falls into administration on Friday 13th, just 24 hours after owners The Hut Group bought iwantoneofthose.com for £600,000.

Panicky brides-to-be turned to their wedding forum for help after it emerged that Confetti – online retailer selling wedding paraphernalia ranging from dresses to tiaras and insurance – had collapsed into administration with more than 1,000 orders still waiting to be processed.

RSM Tenon, the administrators, are “urgently” looking for a buyer for the lost-making website, which has nearly eight million users and annual sales close to £6 million.

One worried bride, Laura Dewar from Ayrshire, complained of being “kept in the dark” about her £150 order. “We are on a tight budget and the staff couldn’t answer my questions.”

And last night it was reported that administrators would honour the 1,100 orders on the system, however they could not be reached for confirmation. All wedding insurance bought through the site is handled by a third party so the policies are unaffected.

The failure of Confetti was a huge shock to the staff who were highly optimistic about the company’s future after it was sold along with the website “I Want One of Those” to the The Hut Group – an online retailer that runs websites for store groups such as Tesco and Argos – for £600,000 last week.

The business was previously owned by Findel – the quoted home shopping company – who claim they didn’t know anything about the new owner’s plans to appoint administrators the day after it took control.

RSM Tenon has already close five of the Confetti stores, which included a large store on London’s Tottenham Court Road, and made 48 of its 94 staff redundant.

The speculation and lack of communication with customer and staff resulted in anxious posts on the Confetti chat forums as worried brides and grooms to be talked about their concern over the missing items ranging from bridesmaid’s dresses to purple topiary trees as well as personalised chocolates.

RSM Tenon has set a closing date of next Monday for the Manchester business which was founded in 1999 as well as a previous winner of the ‘Bes Wedding Website’ category in the BT Online Excellent Awards.

“Confetti is a very high profile market-leading brand and enjoys a large customer base,” said RSM Tenon director Kenny Craig, adding that it offered an “outstanding opportunity” for an entrepreneur or retailer.

“We would urge interested parties to make contact in the next day or two to ensure they have a chance to bid for the business,” he said.

Searching for the perfect wedding attire

Monday, August 16th, 2010

If you are searching for the ideal wedding attire for your special day, but don’t have the finances then we at WeddingForum.co.uk have put together a few helpful tips to help you save money but look just as beautiful on the big day.

  • If you can’t afford a designer wedding dress the why not consider renting one. It will only collect dust anyway if it is sat in the wardrobe.
  • Silk gowns are expensive so stick to polyester blends. They are a lot cheaper, don’t wrinkle as much and are much easier to clean.
  • The beading and detail on the gown the more expensive it looks so get your sewing kit out.
  • Most big bridal stores have huge sales each year and are usually held at wedding events or wedding shows, so keep an eye out for all the latest wedding events in your area.
  • To take care of the something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue, look to family and friends for items that you can use.
  • A great time to go shopping for your bridesmaids dresses is around July/August when all the young one’s have left school/college or even after New Years when all the parties are over. Usually dresses go into the sale and will be a lot cheaper than buying them a couple of months before.
  • If you are looking for dainty little shoes then get shopping in the summer when white shoes are adorning all the shelves of most shoe and department stores.
  • If you are shoe shopping go for your shoes in the afternoon as your feet swell during the day and they will be swollen on your wedding day.
  • Tuxedo rentals for your other half are pretty much the same price no matter where you go.

Search for the owner of 200 found wedding photos

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Nearly 200 wedding photos have been found dumped outside an east Vancouver home last weekend. The photos date back to the early 1990s, featuring a Caucasian woman with a man of either Scottish or Irish heritage.

All the photos and film negatives are in the possession of The Vancouver Sun.

Most of the pictures are of the newlyweds standing outside a grassy area with trees in the background. The ceremony took place inside a church. Both the bride and groom seem to be in their late 30s and have brown hair.

The groom was wearing a grey plaid kilt while his two groomsmen wore red ones. The bride was in a long sleeved white dress, wearing a pearl necklace and matching pearl earrings. The bridesmaids wore teal and are holding bouquets of red flowers. The parents – or in-laws- are also on many of the photos.

The stamp at the back of the photos say that the pictures were developed in July 1993 at Suzuki Photo, 2355 East Hastings St.

There are also a selection of photos of children, people fishing on a boat or lounging in a hot tub, and of the bride, who appears to be a lawyer. Some of the photos were developed as recently as 2005.

If these photos sound familiar The Vancouver are urging people to email them at vluk@vancouversun.com

We hope that she wasn’t ‘meant’ to lose them else I don’t think she will be emailing the newspaper! Wife finds photos of husbands second wedding

Friday, August 6th, 2010

A woman in Cleveland’s suspicions of her husband having an affair came with more of a nasty shock that what she had originally thought.

Lynn France, 41, found out that her husband was not only having an affair, he had married this woman at a big fancy wedding at Walt Disney World.

France found out through Facebook after typing in the name of the woman she suspected her husband was having an affair with. And there it was.

Wedding photos at Walt Disney World, featuring her husband dressed as Prince Charming. His new wife, a pretty blonde was a glowing Sleeping Beauty.

“I was numb with shock,” said France, 41, an occupational therapis in Westlake, Ohio. “There was like an album of 200 pictures on there. Their whole wedding.”

John France, husband and bigamist, said her claim of finding out about the second wedding on Facebook was ‘absurd’ and that she was aware of it a long time before. He claimed that she was losing the court battle for custody of their two sons and was using the Facebook story for attention. Yesterday (05.08.10) he said that his marriage to Lynne France was never valid.

Lynne France said she became suspicious in Autumn 2008 after her husband started to take frequent business trips. She found his passport at home when he said he was off to China.

In October, before leaving for another trip, she said, he left a hotel website up on the couple’s computer screen.

“So I actually went there with a girlfriend, just to see for myself,” Lynn said. “He was there with this girlfriend. I said, ‘Hey I am his wife. We have got a baby.’

Lynn France said that the woman told her she was engaged to her husband. “Sure enough, they were registered for a wedding at Target,” France said.

One of her friends recommended checking the woman’s Facebook page which is where France found the evidence of their relationship. Feeling overwhelmed she confronted her husband and he told her that he wouldn’t go through with the wedding.

John France does not deny that he has married another woman. He insisted he was never married to Lynn, although they did have a wedding in Italy in 2005.

“I don’t think I was cheating,” John France said in an interview Thursday on NBC’s ‘Today’ show. “If you have a marriage that is not right from the beginning, it is not right at the end.”

Gary Williams, his attorney, said in a statement on Tuesday that his client is asking a family law court to declare his marriage to Lynn ‘void since its inception’ because their marriage was never legally proper.

Britain’s first bingo wedding called off by Vicar

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

The happy couple

A couple’s big day has been called off by the vicar because it has been linked to a bingo website which he believes encourages gambling.

Bride to be Suzanne Latta, 28, and her groom, Matt Brown, 37, won £5000 towards the cost of their Big Day after entering a national competition run by Online BingoClub.

However Rev Tony Watts banned the company’s orange and blue logo from his church saying that it encouraged gambling which he disapproved of.

The bingo website had offered cash to any couple willing to feature their logo on the brides wedding dress.

They also wanted a small logo on the groom’s suit as well as on the underside of the couple’s shoes so that it would be visible to the congregation when they knelt at the altar.

The whole scenario is similar to the wedding of Anthea Turner and Grant Bovey who were famously pictured ‘promoting’ Cadbury’s Snowflake chocolate bar at their nuptials.

The bingo comparison site is said to be the first advertiser in the UK to try and officially sponsor a wedding.

The contest sparked a fury within The Church of England say that couples should think carefully before having their wedding sponsored.

“It seems like the latest in a long line of themed weddings,” said a spokesman. “”Presumably at the end someone shouts ‘House!”

“But it might not be the best way to start out in what should be a permanent relationship.

“It would be worrying if people decided to marry according to how much sponsorship was on offer.”

Matt and Suzanne, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffs, were selected from more than a hundred entries.

The couple planned to head to Scotland to marry in Glenmuick Church in Ballater, were Suzanne’s family have relations.

However their excitement turned into sorrow after Rev Watts insisted no logos would be permitted inside the church.

Suzanne said, “We were both absolutely delighted to have been chosen as the winners of the Bingo Bride competition.

“But our minister is not allowing any photos in the church during the ceremony, it is a sacred place and he wants no distractions, on speaking to him he didn’t approve of gambling being advertised in his church.”

Over 100 couples applied after reading £5000 would be be paid to one couple who were willing to sport the website’s blue and orange logos on their wedding dress, suits, shoes, invitations, menus and place settings.

The Reverend was away on on holiday and was unavailable for comment.

But Rob Hutchison from OnlineBingoClub.co.uk, said, “We are very disappointed that the vicar won’t allow our logos inside his church.

“We wanted to sponsor a wedding because we thought it would be great fun and a popular way to get our name out there.

“At the end of the day it is all just a bit of harmless fun and five grand would have helped Matt and Suzanne pay for their special day.”
